How to Apply For PAN Card – Online PAN Card Application

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a 10 digit alphanumeric number allotted by the Income Tax Department to the person or HUF. Here, we will guide you through the process of how to apply for PAN card.

How to Apply For PAN Card Online

1) How to Apply for PAN for Individual:

  • Online application of PAN can be made on the following websites:
  • https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html OR https://www.utiitsl.com/UTIITSL_SITE/pan/
  • Visit one of the websites and fill in all the details in the Form 49A after reading the detailed instructions.
  • A confirmation screen will display all the data filled by the applicant before submission. If there are any errors rectify them or if not re-submit the form.
  • If the communication address is within India, the fee for processing PAN application is Rs. 110/- (Rs. 93 as application fee + 18% GST), which can be paid by demand draft, debit/credit card or through net-banking.
  • If the communication address is outside India, the fee for processing PAN application is Rs. 1020/- (Rs. 93 as application fee + Rs. 771 as dispatch charges) + 18% GST, which can only be paid by debit/credit card or by demand draft at Mumbai.
  • Applicants who make online payment, will be charged an additional charge of up to 2% (plus applicable taxes) of application fee by the bank for providing gateway facility. AND applicants making payment through net-banking will be charged an additional surcharge of Rs. 4/- + GST for payment gateway facility.
  • After the payment has been made successfully, an acknowledgement will be displayed, which shall be saved and printed by the applicant.
  • Then he has to send acknowledgement number along with the following documents to the NSDL through courier/post within 15 days of online application at following address: Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411016′.

PAN application would be processed by NSDL, only after the receipt of the documents.

Proof of Identify:

Copy of;

  1. Elector’s photo identity card; or
  2. Ration card having photograph; or
  3. Passport; or
  4. Driving license; or
  5. Arm’s license; or
  6. Aadhaar card issued by the UIDAI; or
  7. Photo identity card issued by the Central Government or a State Government or a Public Sector Undertaking; or
  8. Pensioner Card having photograph; or
  9. Central Government Health Scheme Card or Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card; or
  10. Bank certificate in original on letter head from the branch containing duly attested photograph and bank account number of the application.
  11. Certificate of identity in original signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councillor or a Gazetted Officer, as the case may be.

Note: In case of a minor, any of the above documents of any parents or guardian shall be deemed to be the proof of identity.

Proof of Address:

Copy of;

  1. Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI; or
  2. Elector’s photo identity card; or
  3. Driving license; or
  4. Passport; or
  5. Passport of spouse; or
  6. Post office passbook having address of the applicant; or
  7. Latest property tax assessment order; or
  8. Domicile certificate issued by the government; or
  9. Allotment letter of accommodation issued by the Central Government or State Government of not more than three years old; or
  10. Property registration document; or

Copy of following documents of not more than three months old;

  1. Electricity bill; or
  2. Landline telephone or broadband connection bill; or
  3. Water bill; or
  4. Consumer gas connection card or book or piped gas bill; or
  5. Bank account statement; or
  6. Depository account statement; or
  7. Credit card statement; or
  8. Certificate of address signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councilor or a Gazetted officer; or
  9. Employer certificate in original.

Note: In case of an Indian citizen residing outside India, copy of Bank Account Statement in country of residence or copy of non-resident external bank account statements not more than three months old shall be required as proof of address.

Proof of Date of Birth:

Copy of;

  1. Birth certificate issued by the municipal authority or any office authorized to issue birth and death certificate by the Registrar of Birth and Deaths or the Indian Consulate; or
  2. Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI; or
  3. Elector’s photo identity card; or
  4. Driving license; or
  5. Passport; or
  6. Matriculation certificate or mark sheet of recognized board; or
  7. Photo identity card issued by the Central Government or State Government or Central Public Sector Undertaking or State Public Sector Undertaking; or
  8. Domicile certificate issued by the government; or
  9. Central Government Health Service Scheme photo card or Ex-servicemen contributory Health Scheme photo card; or
  10. Pension payment order; or
  11. Marriage certificate by the Registrar of Marriages; or
  12. Affidavit sworn before a magistrate stating the date of birth.

2) How to Apply for PAN for HUF (Hindu Undivided Family):

Application form for PAN Card for HUF is same as in case of individual but some changes shall be considered as under:

  1. In the column of “Last Name/Surname”, complete name of HUF should be written.
  2. Photo of Karta is not required but signature of Karta is required at same places as in case of individual and application will be signed by the Karta by Black Ink.
  3. Also, An affidavit is required in original form along with the hard copy of the application.
  4. Affidavit must include name, father’s name and address of all the coparceners on the date of application.
  5. Any of the documents as in case of an individual, in the name of Karta of HUF is required as proof of Identity, Address & Date of Birth
  6. The Date of Birth of HUF is the Date of Creation of HUF, which in required in the affidavit.
